Our eyes met, and I looked away again. I couldn’t stop glancing over my shoulder as if his gaze were magnetic, constantly pulling at me from across the crowded space. “Girl, he literally can’t take his eyes off you.” Sasha squealed, and I rolled my eyes, taking another hearty sip of the fruity cocktail, stirring the muddled berries at the bottom with my straw.

“Stop, he’s probably just watching the game,” I said, pointing to the TV in front of me. And it just looks like he’s watching me.”

“No!” all three of my girlfriends retorted simultaneously. “He’s definitely looking at you.” Carol swallowed tightly and looked down at the tabletop. “He’s coming this way!”
