My poor step-son has really had a go of it lately. First, his girlfriend broke up with him, and then a few days later, he got into a dirt bike accident that broke both his arms! He’s been so miserable and unable to do anything! Recovering has been hard on all of us. His dad normally bathes him and sits with him during the day while I’m at work, but a big out-of-town meeting came up, and I was tasked not only with keeping him company but also with keeping his spirits up.
I was sitting beside his bed on the third day we’d been by ourselves when I noticed him squirming. “Are your pillows in need of adjusting, baby?” I asked, standing to come by his side and help him with anything he may need. He looked up at me with the oddest expression.
“I’m so embarrassed.”
