I’ve always been drawn to flame. I am curious about the dance between light and dark, how the heat is all-consuming, and how one tiny spark can devour everything in its path. Fire is protecting and also devastating. Which side of the coin you get is kind of luck of the draw. My friends always joke that I’d be a full-fledged Pyro if I weren’t so afraid of being in trouble.
I am really afraid to do anything wrong or get into trouble, so I guess that’s what led my friends to pull the fire starter prank on me. We were all hanging out at the park when someone gave me their new lighter. I flicked it a few times, mesmerized by the quick igniting of the blue flame. After the third time, a booming man’s voice yelled across the open space, “Put that out NOW!”
