A few of my girlfriends planned a hiking trip. It was supposed just to be an easy trail, up to a waterfall where we could swim and picnic, then head back home. However, Sarah said it would be like five hours max. I love the outdoors, and hiking is one of my favorite ways to enjoy nature, but I’m clumsy and directionally challenged.
Halfway up the trail, our sunny day changed within a blink of an eye. The wind whistled through the trees out of nowhere, and dark clouds raced overhead. With the sun gone and my hair whipping in my face, I didn’t see the moss-covered tree stump in the center of the path. Instead, I tripped, trying to catch up to the girls. Trying to right myself, I reached out for any branch, but the one I grabbed broke, and I lost my balance. My body tumbled and rolled painfully down the embankment. I finally stopped rolling and realized I was lost in the woods. Rain poured down from the angry clouds, and my friends were nowhere to be seen.
